Delta del Po

Travelling along the Via Romea Germanica, an ancient route that retraces the stages of the journey undertaken in the 12th century by the monk Albert of Stade to Rome, one comes across the Argenta Ecomuseum, which is divided into three museum sections and a nature section: the Civic Museum documents European devotional routes through its pilgrimage insignia found during the excavations in Via Vinarola. It is here that the excavations have unearthed a rare and precious pilgrim’s plaque. During the event, new and surprising theories regarding the origin of this artefact will be revealed: a recent reinterpretation of its iconography suggests, in fact, that it depicts St Francis.

A guided tour of the archaeological section of the Civic Museum dedicated to the history of Argenta in the 14th century, through the artefacts unearthed at the Via Vinarola site, a moat that was filled in and embanked using the ‘paraduro estense’ technique, which enabled Argenta’s urban expansion in the late Middle Ages, and an in-depth look at aspects of daily life.
